Kinsey Has a Beard?

I didn't get around to mentioning it earlier, but if you haven't seen it yet, Alex Witchel has a lengthy cover story in the New York Times magazine on Mad Men and its writer-creator, Matthew Weiner. There are some mild spoilers—notably, one related to what year and time it is when season 2 debuts—but the piece is less interesting for the dirt than for its insights on the methods and psyche of Weiner, a protege of David Chase who is going through his own Chasian family issues in his work:

What do his parents think of the show?

“I think they love the show,” he said.

He thinks? They haven’t told him?

“Ah, not really. I think they like to tell other people more than they like to tell me.”

But mainly, you need to see the photo. Seriously, Paul Kinsey has a beard now? I can't wait for Don Draper's shag hairdo.

beerbaron:

I don't know if the year season 2 takes place is really a spoiler, considering they pretty much told us outright by playing Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" over the end credits of the season 1 finale. I can easily see Kinsey getting caught up in that whole Village scene, which might explain the beard.

This was an interesting story, and really only confirmed my belief that the best television series, like the best films, are the products of one person's creative vision.

Chris Kw.:

I read the article online on Saturday. It's great to see Mad Men get so much coverage by the mainstream media. Now if only they could accept their Golden Globes and Emmys at the actual ceremonies. With this show's luck, they will win the Emmy for best drama but the Emmy's won't happen because of a SAG strike.

Wilson:

Are they going to have the whole season in the can before the actors' strike? Or are we looking at a strike-shortened season kind of deal?
