TV Poll: American Oddsmaker

Your challenges are simple:

Who wins American Idol tonight? What song would you pick for David Archuleta to sing? Which for David Cook?

I'm going with Cook, on the theory that he will be able to successfully emo-ify whatever big sploogey anthem is this year's Idol coronation song, and thus outshine Archuleta's pure but straightforward take on the same song. If Cook boots it, of course—or is forbidden to do a re-arrangement—he'll be in the same situation as Blake Lewis, who last year had no idea what to do with the Idol anthem tailor-made for Jordin Sparks.

Archuleta: you're singing All By Myself. Cook: you're doing Landslide. (Note: No editorial comment intended by the choice of song titles. I swear.)

Okay, sticking with some of the themes from this year, let's see David Cook do Neil Diamond's "I Am, I Said." That thing is perfect for emo-ifying.

And since Archelta so perfectly butchered "Imagine" -- really, some of you people out there think he did a good job with that song -- let's give him the chance to butcher "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding?"

As for me, I'll be missing the live Idol because I'll be at a concert of a guy who would have never made it past the audition round of Idol -- Elvis Costello, who I hope to very much do his very famous version of Nick Lowe's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding."

I don't think this is considered spoilering, but the pretty official word is that they were able to pick their own "coronation song" out of a list of 10 or something like that. So, we may be at least sparred hearing the same sappy song twice.

@Lori: Even if they do pick their own "coronation song," I understand they're ALL really bad and sappy and pretty gross. For a hilarious review of all top 20 entries in the Idol songwriting contest (from which the "coronation song" is selected), check out EW.com.
