BSG Watch: Centurion Superdelegates

"A crazy theory, and apologies if someone else has already suggested it: suppose this finaal season of BSG is not building toward a decisive battle between humans and Cylons? What if the show has set up schisms or civil wars within both the human and Cylon camps, which will force one set of humans to ally with another set of Cylons to start over again on Earth?"

I started believing that when Sci-Fi was promoting the new season. They had commercials for different characters and two possiblilites of where they were heading. Number Six was "Sabatoeur of Savior?" and Roslin was "Diplomat or Dictator."

I thought this was a fairly good episode. I liked seeing a different version of Six. Tricia Helfer once again proved how great she is. So many of the Sixes are so different from one another (and I am not talking about hair color). I was really glad to hear that Fox signed her to a new contract.

If I may slightly hijack this to another sci-fi show: Bad enough that BBC America denies us five or six minutes of every episode of "Torchwood," but did they hire the "Mad Men" captioner? Does "Leicester" really sound like "the rest"? "Katie" like "okay"? Gack.

Missing #7 ... Which one of the Final Five is #7 ... If they just omitted the number for some reason, does that mean there's a #13? 12 colonies, 12 Cylons, 13th colony, 13th Cylon?

I'm not sure taking a couple of machine-gun toting 'droids to an editorial meeting would work - editors wield [light]pens and can strike out with Sith-like speed and ruthlessness.

Not that I'd possibly suggest editors have ever embraced the Dark Side.

/agree about Tricia Helfer. I loved the Cylons this episode, the six/one struggles had shades of Ben v. Locke, to me. Six's centurions seemed just like Locke's grenade (we may be naive, but by damnit, no more mr/ms nice guy!).

Also, I was glad to see the return of in-the-head Baltar, although he has better chemistry with caprica six.

So here's the thing that bugged me about this episode (besides not being able to tell if Roslin was laughing or crying). So Roslin is worried that Starbuck was sent by the Cylons to lead the fleet into a trap. This belief is somewhat reasonable based upon the fact that the fleet was about to be destroyed by the Cylon ambush when Starbuck's miraculous return just so happened to coincided with the withdrawal of the Cylons.

However, what would be accomplished by way of the trap that Starbuck is supposedly leading them into? The destruction of the fleet? Because last I checked the Cylon's already had the humans pinned. I believe one of the major characters (Adama) even referenced the fact that the fleet was doomed prior to Starbuck's return. And so the withdrawal was taken as evidence (among other things) of Starbuck having been compromised?

So Roslin is thinking that Starbuck is going to lead the fleet back into the same destruction trap that Starbuck's return rescued them from? Where's the logic? That's what I don't get. If Roslin believes that the Cylon's want to destroy the humans, why didn't the Cylons destroy the fleet when they had them pinned? Why does she think the Cylon's would send Starbuck back to engage the fleet in some diabolically circuitous scheme the end result of which is to place the human fleet in the same predicament that they were in at the end of season 3 prior to Starbuck's return? Convoluted no?

Of course we've learned that the withdrawal was actually prompted by the Raiders refusing to fire on Anders once he was identified as a Cylon. Which makes sense because if your soldiers won't fight, then you best get out of Dodge. It is interesting though that the Cylon's lack the ability to identify the specific Raider that made the positive identification of Anders and signaled the other Raiders to call off the attack.

It's set in our future. That would explain the names. And the Hybrid statements in Razor about all this being a repeat of what has gone before.

I have 2 crackpot theories!

Theory 1: The eights planned Boomer to vote against them on purpose (and it may have been Boomer's idea), in order to provoke the sixes and the others into taking drastic action. Why I believe this is during the vote scene, the 8 sitting down looked, well, like she wanted to hide under a rock. She didn't look surprised, or shocked.

Now, it could have been embarrassment for her own model, or it could have been because she wasn't comfortable with the idea. But the look on her face puzzled me the whole time. (It's also possible she's got a thing for that one version of the preacher model I forget the name of. Which is eew. But that could explain that one scene earlier on where she was dancing. Or she could have been seducing him. Or him using her. But I like my crackpot theory better XD)

Theory 2: This one is way more far out. It's related to my idea that the fleet IS the 13th colony itself. The only survivors will be the final five, Balter The Messiah and his cultists, and possible a handful of others. Yeah. XD

I enjoyed this episode as well, though I do agree that somebody should have suggested Starbuck scouting out first as well...

Personally my theory is that Roslin has been a Cylon all along. I think the proof of it was the way the hybrid's blood was able to cure her of her disease. How would it be able to do something like that if she was just a normal human?

On another theory, I believe that the memories and the direction that Starbuck is getting isn't from the Cylons but from humans on Earth itself. Hopefully this is a sign that they aren't heading to a 1970's Earth like the original series, or even one based on the here and now.

Yeah, I'm commenting on this as the third episode is about to air in three hours. But i just finished watching it last night.

A friend of mine had an interesting theory. Not sure if its been presented in this forum yet. If so, I apologize for being redundant. I'm not advocating the theory, but it can fit in the context of what has been presented to us.

Tigh, Tory, Anders and Tyrol were replaced on Caprica by a Cylon equivalent. Somehow their memories were replicated and downloaded into the current Galactica Four (to take a page out of Lost). Reasons for this:

1. Col. Tigh: Mainly because it would be highly improbable that Tigh was a Cylon all along. He was fighting the mechanical centurion models long before the assumed creation of the skinjobs.

2. New Caprica: All four characters were on New Caprica with ample time for the cylons to grab them and replace them with their skinjob counterparts.

3. All four are in remarkable positions of power. It would be improbable that four random people the Cylons seeded into colonial society would coincidentally rise to the position of power that these four have. Therefore a switch after the fact would be more believable.

4. Since the other cylon models don't seem to know about the Galactica Four, it would seem that there is a puppetmaster or higher power at work here. Perhaps the one they refer to as the "one true god?" Perhaps this final cylon model was also the first to gain sentience - and at this point there is very little doubt that the cylons are sentient - and gave this gift to the other models?

Yes we can?:

My hail of bullets for this episode.

1. Lee: I despise this Apollo story arc. Give me a break. Nobody is going to applaud his decision to leave the fleet. Weren't they having a pilot shortage not so long ago - hence hot dog, Cat and now Seely and Anders, stepping up to the plate? "Sorry, the survival of humanity is just not that important, I'm going to go be a civie." I've never disliked him more, but true to this character, he goes with his principles, always - except when he is frakking Starbuck behind Dualla's back and then sends Dualla in to rescue Starbuck. That scene on the planet, where Dualla knows that Lee is sending her in to rescue the woman he truly loves is heartbreaking and the actress that plays Dualla played it pitch perfect. Ah, the pain.

2. Baltar: Maybe he's changed. Whereas last week, I was skeptical about Baltar, this week, i'm willing to entertain the idea that he has changed. After all that has happened to him, either he lives an remarkably charmed life or there is a god watching out for him. At this point, he's gotta believe that with all the frakked up things he's done, he's sitll alive? There's gotta be something going on here. Just when you think you knew everything there was to know about Baltar, he surprises you. Baltar and Six are probably the two characters I have consistently enjoyed throughout the show. They change so much during the seasons.

3. Viva La Revolucion! The scene where the centurions bust in and kill the other three models is great.

Six: "The centurions learned that you lobotomizing the raiders"
Cylon Press Secretary Guy: "Oh, no..."

You knew this was coming, The divisions within Cylon society are growing. At first they were really reticent about disagreement, then they started killing models and now the Centurions are joining in. Their perfect society is really becoming more and more human with every episode and sooner or later they will become the very humans which they seek to destroy.

4. Col. Tigh: "It's not like you have to get your back..." What a great character. He knows he's a cylon, but what a self loathing complex he has!

5. Adama/Roslin: That exchange was brutal. The old man can have a real mean streak sometimes. Roslin is played to perfection. You get the sense that her hold on sanity, due to the stress of her dying and needing to find earth is getting a bit shaky. I do think she meant to shoot Starbuck, but then again Roslin has shown time and time again that she is far more ruthless (and in the President Adar mold) than we first thought as the principled secretary of education.

6. Dualla: What a wasted character. I agree that she may not have a role in the narrative, but every bit of line they give her is done perfectly. Kandyse McClure was shamefully underutilized. That scene where she presents Lee his framed wings/rank insignia, you feel her emotions, her unrequired love and pain for Lee. Her tenure as XO was great. I can't say enough about Dualla.

Enough writing my fingers are tired.
