Edwards Hits the Iowa Airwaves

Wow! Terrific ad.

"It is time for our party, the Democratic Party, to show a little backbone, to have a little guts."

Cue the 101 excuses for why they can't.

Great ad.

I am glad Edwards is finally hitting the air. It's a wonderful ad.

Sorry to be off-topic but can someone riddle me this, given that the Bush regime keeps arguing that Khalid Sheik Mohammed was broken through the use of water boarding, why does Bush say the following concerning Mukasey, "He doesn't know whether we use that technique or not?"

Uh, did I stumble upon a Myspace page or or an pro-Edwards blogspot blog or something? Shouldn't Jay point out that the ad really doesn't say anything and uses a cheesy piano soundtrack to hide that fact? Shouldn't Jay point out just how much of a showman Edwards is and how his *actual policies* (not just his hair) conflict with his supposed goals? In fact, his policies would make the situation he decries worse. But, you'd never know that from Time magazine.

Shouldn't a magazine like Time at least give some sort of effort to discussing things that actually matter?

Since I made that, the NYT has admitted that the option Edwards "forgot" to discuss is a possibility, and Fred Thompson has even made it part of his policy. Considering that, shouldn't Edwards be asked about what he forgot?

(I note that 911fsa.org is offering $1000 to anyone who can get a straight answer out of Hillary. Is that what it's going to take to get the MSM to do their supposed job?)

Except for the closing photo of Sen Edwards, which looks like it was taken at a Karaoke bar...great ad!

Unfortunately, this is the world of the 30 second ad. And I think this ad is effective.

A thirty second ad shouldn't be a disquisition, but should be as meaningful as you can be within the constraints of the medium (which are considerable).

If you've read Drew Weston's Political Brain, he spends a lot of time analyzing 30 second ads and how Democrats tend to get things wrong with them.

I bet Joe Trippi (who probably worked on this ad) has read Drew Weston...

Edwards was discussing what to do about the approx. 12 million undocumented foreigner already in the country in a debate format. Fred Thompson's "immigration" plan for those people is Edwards "option two" ('no amnesty').

....and, here's the killer. This bozo notes that in 2003, only four companies were prosecuted for employing undocumented workers -- and he wants to know why John Edwards didn't do anything about it. The nation has a republican president, and both houses of congress was run by Republicans, and Edwards wasn't even a public official at the time.... and this bozo wants to know what "Edwards did about it? Sheesh.

1. Edwards was a Senator from 1999 to 2005, a time period that includes 2003. Did JE ever take the Bush admin to task for refusing to enforce our laws?

2. Currently, we aren't enforcing our laws except in rare cases. Fred Thompson's plan is to enforce the laws. Thus, the current situation and what Thompson supports are two different things. Thus, John Edwards "forgot" to mention that option.

Great ad, very effective. Unfortunately, Edwards doesn't really take his own advice. When asked about decriminalization of marijuana at Tuesday's debate, Edwards gave the pat 'It would send the wrong message to kids'. The 'wrong message' spiel is not showing any courage or backbone, its just a cop out.
