and precisely what about Wilson's endorsement of Hillary Clinton constitutes "political ambulance chasing" ana marie?
Do you bother to think before you post this kind of nonsense?
Posted by p_lukasiak | July 16, 2007 5:41 PM
Why did the thoroughly discredited, worthless one-time "Ambassador" to Gabon Joe Wilson lie about having "debunked" Niger-Iraq documents as forgeries eight months prior to the United States ever receiving the documents?
Posted by Tom | July 16, 2007 5:45 PM
I fail to see why this affects the race at all, or what the headline means. Is it that Wilson is a victim of a Bush administration hit and run, and Hillary is chasing after the metaphorical ambulance for her own benefit? That is weird. You’re a weirdo, Ana.

That's too bad. I think he should have stayed above the fray. He should keep in mind that he wouldn't really have been a public figure if there wasn't a scandal. What does HRC's candidacy have to do with what happened with the intelligence community? Nothing.
This lessens his credibility. The causes he advocates for should be his wife and the intelligence community. That's it.
Posted by JJ | July 16, 2007 5:46 PM
OF COURSE it's political ambulance chasing. When lying lawyers chase dodgy pols to get a client, or vice-versa, that's what it is.
Posted by BillW | July 16, 2007 5:47 PM
Uh oh, Tom-- sounds like you've been living in fantasyland. Click on the link on my handle for some Facts about Wilson and his trip.
Surely you don't think that Saddam was using Niger-obtained yellowcake to restart its nuclear program... do you?
Posted by Elvis Elvisberg | July 16, 2007 5:49 PM
At least it isn't another McCain post.
Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2007 5:51 PM
"Thoroughly discredited" ...in the parallel universe of Republican talking points, that is. "Discredited" in that world means that he's been shouted down and had his mike cut on Fox News and been a target of baseless memes circulated by Michelle Malkin and company.
Posted by JJ | July 16, 2007 5:54 PM
I agree with JJ - it's a bad move by Wilson, in my view. He would do better to minimize overt partisan moves, and endorsing a (initial) war supporter like Clinton isn't particularly convincing to me.

Rudy Giuliani's been endorsed by Sen David Vitter -- I guess I missed the blog entry entitled "Political Prostitution".
Giuliani's also been endorsed by Thomas Ravenel -- I missed the headline "Political Crack-dealing" as well.
John McCain's been endorsed by Trent Lott, as we all know from your headline, "Political Segregation".
Willard Romney has the endorsement of Strom Thurmond's son Paul -- I remember this one because you did a twofer with Lott.
Cincinnati's Lindner family also endorses Willard, which we will no doubt find under your headline "Political Swift Boating Worked So Well The First Time"
Oh, wait, we didn't see any of that at all.
Joe Wilson has just as much right to endorse a Presidential candidate as anyone else, including Congressional members and business types. Why the snark? Can you possibly, for an instant, imagine he'd endorse a Republican? After what they, and their bleating followers, did to him and his family?
Grow up, Cox. You're not getting any of that Clenis, so give it a rest. If you think there was something untoward about this endorsement, then say so.
Or just regale us with tales of anal sex. You know, whichever.
Posted by artemis crackfrog | July 16, 2007 6:58 PM
I'm surprised that Wilson endorsed a candidate who didn't even bother to read the intelligence estimate before writing Bush a blank check. Nor has she admitted she made a mistake. My admiration for Wilson has stumbling several notches.
Posted by Derek | July 16, 2007 7:22 PM
Well what do you know. Seems like everything falls along party lines.
Posted by Intrepyd | July 16, 2007 7:22 PM
So Ana: what is this about. You are setting yourself up as the high priestess of what is acceptable? Joe was fine when he went after Cheney. But he endorses HRC and he is an ambulance chaser. I did not realise that you can be intelligent and stupid all in the same post. Pity. You demonstate the shallowness of political discourse that is de rigeur in Washington. That you can be perspicacious and stupid at the same time is no surprise.
Joe: don't give a seconds thought to this kind of stupidity. Women!
Posted by vendenne | July 16, 2007 7:22 PM
I guess anyone who doesn't support Clinton is stupid.
Posted by Derek | July 16, 2007 7:25 PM
All right, who leaked how Wilson plans to vote in the primaries?
Posted by Mike M. | July 16, 2007 7:27 PM
Does Joe Wilson have some sort of hidden credibility I am unaware of in terms of presidential politics that makes this endorsement significant?
Posted by slcathena | July 16, 2007 7:48 PM
"I am unaware of in terms of presidential politics that makes this endorsement significant?"
It is significant to Clinton, and her apologists, as they try to gain some credibility on Iraq, without admitting she made a mistake. Like all good moderates, they want to make sure she can claim to be on both sides of the issue.
Posted by Derek | July 16, 2007 8:13 PM
Sicathena: Wilson is well informed on issues of national politics and especially so on issues of international relations. He was also an appointee of Bush the Elder, so the fact that he even has an endorsement in a Democratic primary is interesting.
Posted by Mike M. | July 16, 2007 8:36 PM
Joe Wilson would like an ambassadorship, preferably to a nice country.
Posted by BillW | July 16, 2007 10:57 PM
Good point, BillW. That "boondoggle to Niger" was a pretty raw deal, as far as boondoggles go.
Posted by Elvis Elvisberg | July 16, 2007 11:08 PM
Of all the 'issues' and news worthy stories that could be written about Hil and Joe, this certainly ranks as 'sooooooo'. Can't you find something of significance to report?
It has hardly been a 'slow news' day. Congress, Executive Privilege, Pace raising the 'more surge', Bush's great move for peace in the ME [snark], Congress, Iraq, Edwards moving among people who can't donate and have no clout, ...
Posted by linda | July 17, 2007 1:56 AM
The Wilsons have every right to participate in our Constitutional democracy. Reaction to this kind of news separates the folks who have been lobotomized by Fox news transcripts from those of us who still live in the reality based world. I guess you must be part of the former, Cox. You definitely have a pathology about HRC. At least you're not sniffing around in her panty drawer like Chris Matthews. I hope it stays that way.

That is way too many posts for a pointless blog. It's irrelavent whether Wilson supports Clinton or not. Politicians always lineup behind one candidate or another. Most people don't care. It's just something to talk about. In the end how many votes will Clinton get because Wilson supports her. Not many. She will win or loose on her own ideas & campaign. Just like the rest of them in both parties. The only difference is the lessor known candidates from each pary. If they cannot raise enough money, they will drop out. Good ideas or not. Of course not all candidates for president really think they have a chance. Some are running for other reasons. VP, future cabinet post, etc.

"I am unaware of in terms of presidential politics that makes this endorsement significant?"
Well, to start, I think you gotta admit he's very well informed about national security and the intelligence community, non?
Then there's the fact that he is - not just in my estimation - a hero for having the courage to tell the truth to a nation that was being deceived by their leaders.
So yeah, his opinion counts.
I am most definitely NOT a supporter of Hillary, btw.
Posted by Brautigan | July 17, 2007 9:28 AM
Ana - I do not understand the 'ambulance chasing' comment. Could you clarify that for me?
Also, what is your opinion of the commentors on this blog who believe that Joe Wilson is the bad guy in all of this? I am fascinated by what people choose to believe despite mountains of evidence to the contrary. An occasional reminder of the facts is always the best remedy to the creeping misinformation that the conservatives inject into the debate.
Posted by Terrapin | July 17, 2007 10:32 AM
Ana, I too don't get the "ambulance chasing line".I mean Hillary was a lawyer, but then again so were most of the candidates on both sides, so I just don't get it. I realize no one likes to explain their jokes, but it looks like literally no one got it this time.
Posted by Crust | July 17, 2007 11:17 AM
Yeah, I, too am baffled.
"Ambulance chasing," as far as I understand it, means racing to the scene of a tragedy to profit off of it. Is AMC saying that Hillary's campaign is somehow akin to a car wreck? Is there some way in which Joe Wilson can profit off supporting the (at least) nominal Democratic frontrunner? Anybody?
I mean, not trying to be a DICK or anything, but I feel like I didn't just miss the humor but the whole point of the headline.
Posted by valentinian | July 17, 2007 5:39 PM
Joe Wilson just takes a position which is profitable for him...
